Newark Development Partners (NDP) is pleased to announce the successor to Fred Ernest as the next Executive Director for NDP. Following is the background and qualifications of our next leader.

Individual: Patrick J. Sullivan

  • 30 years as a Newark resident
  • Family: married to Kelly and 3 children; Brogan, Avery and Gwen
  • Current employer: Bath and Body Works, Columbus, Ohio
  • Position: Director, HR Technologies, 10/21 to present
  • Previous employment: L Brands, Sr. Manager, HR Technologies
  • Education: Graduate of Newark Catholic H.S. and bachelor’s degree in communications technology, Ohio University
  • Effective date for NDP: August 16, 2024

About NDP: Chartered in 2012 as the economic development extension for the City of Newark; NDP is a tax exempt, 501c3 corporation formed under the Ohio Revised Code as approved by the City of Newark, Administration and Newark City Council. NDP is governed by a board of 10 directors appointed by the City of Newark, the Licking County Chamber of Commerce and the Licking County Commissioners.

Position Description: The Executive Director of NDP is responsible for leading all facets of the organization, including economic development for the City of Newark, all operations, financial management, property acquisition and development, fundraising, human resource management and other miscellaneous duties.

According to Mr. DeLawder, Board Chair of NDP, Mr. Sullivan expressed a very strong interest in the position and in the economic development of the City of Newark. He has significant background in planning and project management as well as leadership management experience within high-performing organizations.

Current Executive Director Fred Ernest believes Mr. Sullivan has the personality to excel at this job. Relationship building and project management are two of his strengths that will allow him to grow in this position. His desire to hit the ground running is also an attribute that will help ensure a smooth transition.

NDP currently employs one colleague and one additional contract associate, both of whom report to the Executive Director.

NDP’s current Executive Director, Fred Ernest, served as NDP’s Executive Director since he joined NDP early in 2013. Fred will step down as Executive Director when Mr. Sullivan’s employment begins on August 16, 2024. Fred is looking forward to retirement and will conclude his work with NDP on December 31, 2024.
